Healing is NOT Up to God

I’m going to let you in on a little secret. It is NOT supposed to be a secret but it must be since so many Christians don’t seem to know this fact:

IT IS NOT UP TO GOD whether we are healed.

Too many Christians have taken the stance that IF God wants them healed, He will heal them. They then can go on their merry way and think God will do all the doing.

Just as we had to choose to become a Christian – maybe walk down the aisle to the front of the church and get prayed over (do something) – we also have to choose to believe and receive healing.

And it’s not just quoting scriptures all the time (although that does help). It is KNOWING the truth, knowing the Bible is the truth and the symptoms are facts – and that truth trumps facts.

Part of that truth is that we must believe we are healed BEFORE those symptoms leave. Our faith cannot be based on how we feel or what we see. It must be based on the Biblical truth, ‘…by His stripes you were healed” (1 Peter 2:24).

How to we develop that confident knowing? We will have to know what the Bible says and know that it IS the truth – and this is where most Christians fail. If we do not spend time reading the Bible and faith-based books, listening to faith-based CDs and watching faith-based DVD’s and television services, then our faith tank is empty. We are trying to go somewhere with no fuel to get there.

I know whereof I speak – I had cold symptoms for 6 weeks. Well, truthfully, I only had them for 2 weeks and was doing great until Leland came home and shared germs he picked up from the gym. So, I spent another 4 weeks with cold symptoms growing progressively worse.

Now I kept speaking healing scriptures. I also would say, “I believe I received my healing.” When the symptoms finally began to abate, I asked God why it took so long to manifest what I was believing for – total healing and health. Know what that answer was?

Very simple. I heard in my spirit (not an audible voice; that inner knowing), “Nan, you didn’t have enough healing scriptures in you to combat those symptoms faster. Had you spent MORE time taking in those healing scriptures like you took those cold tablets, the symptoms would have fled far quicker.”

It wasn’t said to lay guilt on me. It was a simple explanation. I needed to be in an overflow of faith to stand against the progressive symptoms. Faith only comes by hearing (reading, watching) the Word of God (Romans 10:17).

Just as the Word of God is medicine*, it’s the same with natural medicine. Had a doctor said, “Take these pills three times a day, with breakfast, lunch and dinner” and I only take one pill then skip all the rest, I wouldn’t have any “medicinal power” to battle the symptoms.

If you’re dealing with sickness and disease today – like this flu going around – get into your Bible and dig out healing scriptures (or click the link below for a page of them). Read them. Begin saying them aloud, taking them like taking cold tablets (not just once). They are health and medicine.

*Proverbs 4:20-23 (CEV) My child, listen carefully to everything I (God) say.  Don’t forget a single word, but think about it all. Knowing these teachings will mean true life and good health for you.

p.s. What I am NOT saying:

I am NOT saying that if you are sick you are a bad Christian who did not have enough faith or who did not pray enough. Hello? I went 6 weeks dealing with symptoms.

On that note, I am NOT saying that by simply speaking scriptures you will not get sick. That Word (fuel) needs to get down on the inside of you until it is truth to you over facts you’re dealing with.

I am NOT saying that you shouldn’t see a doctor. Doctor’s are used of God, too. You do what you need to do while trusting God. Pray over your visit and your doctor.

  1. Very good. What is the truth? Regardless what we feel like or look like the word is the truth and the facts are subject to change. Awesome!

    1. If I had gone by how I felt, I would have believed God didn’t want me healed! I am glad to be on the other side of it! God is so good!

  2. Great article, I need to spend more time in the healing scriptures too, I have been battling cold symptoms.
