Shut ‘Yo Mouth. Really.

parrots 3 sized
I heard it on the internet so it must be true!

Do you have any idea how many things we parrot without ever taking into consideration whether or not it’s in the Bible and/or anything God has ever said?

I have.

Recently – well, this past year – God has been opening my ears to hear things that I have been saying that are completely unscriptural. To understand how amazing this is to me, consider that God has been dealing with the words of my mouth with me since the late 70’s.

I used to think that if He had told me all at once everything I say that was unscriptural, I’d never be able to talk again. There has been SO much I said as habit, without thought.

Just when I think, “I got this!” He begins to peel back the layers and show me more things I’ve said unthinkingly that He’s never said and you can’t find anywhere in the Bible.

This recent revelation actually kind of ticked me off – mostly at myself. I have completely agreed with lies. How? Because someone who is supposedly in authority said it is a fact.

Take this statement, for example. “You will begin to gain weight automatically, 10 pounds or more each year, as you age. Just expect it to happen.” Or take, “As you get older your hair will begin to thin.” How about, “The older you get the harder it will be to think clearly. You will have to stop driving, too, because you will lose your peripheral vision.”

To this I say – HOGWASH!! LIES! I didn’t see it for so many years. Then one day I was listening to a friend talk about how she was beginning to feel aches and pains and become sore more easily, but she expected that because she’s older (she’s younger than me).

While she was talking, I heard God say (no, not an audible voice), “Scripture and verse?”

I said, “Huh?” Hey I have deep conversations with Him sometimes (on His end).

He said, “Give Me scripture and verse where I say in the Bible that your body will develop arthritis as you get older?”

As soon as He said that, I saw it and He showed me more. Just because science and doctors make a statement they believe to be a fact does not mean you have to parrot it, believe it or receive it. The problem is that we DO say it and we do agree with it. When someone says something like that, we almost automatically agree, “Oh yeah, you’re right” as if it is gospel.

People have been confessing these statements as fact for YEARS – GENERATIONS. We just accepted it as fact and agreed with the statements. We never once stopped to think and compare those statements against the Word of God. And the big problem is that because we accepted those statements, we live those statements – gaining weight, hair thinning, arthritis, etc.

And before you take Mark 11:23 and say, “Yes, well I don’t really believe it in my heart, you know.” If you don’t then why are you saying it? Don’t you know that your enemy is a legalist? He doesn’t care if you mean it or not, you just gave him ammunition.

And here is the most important Truth you can ever learn: IF you don’t want it in your life, don’t say it. Don’t blindly follow what the world says is truth. Make sure you compare everything you believe and you say with the Word of God. If God didn’t say it, you don’t say it.

Sure, it may be (or seem to be) like a fact in your life but what is the Truth?

You think I’m being ridiculous? Take this into consideration: Several years ago God dealt with Leland to never again agree with the world when they said, “We’re going to have drought this year.” Leland said OK and began working on that.

Now we are several years later – about 20 years into his changed confession – and we have not participated in drought 95% of the time. I say 95% because it took a few times before things began to turn around – but when they did? We have had rain on our land even when it didn’t rain across the street.

If you don’t want it in your life, DON’T SAY IT!

  1. Man just when I think it is safe to read your blog you hit me with more things that I can’t be saying. I do appreciate it but it sure is interesting what we have been saying and agreeing to that we sure should not be.
