Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7
I was recently reading a devotional where the author made the statement that he hadn’t had a headache since 1933. At that time it had been 68 years.
Someone asked him what he’d do if he did get a headache. His reply was simple:
“Well, first, I wouldn’t tell it if I did. And second, I’d resist it.”
My mom learned this from the same teacher, then shared it with me, then Josh.
If all sickness and disease comes from the devil, and God says to resist the devil, then He is also saying to resist the sickness and disease. Is it easy? Not at first (for most of us). It takes practice.
Or as my late husband would say, “You puke your guts up enough, you will go learn.” In our entire 27 years of marriage, he was only sick one time.
It’s a choice and it requires copious amounts of the Word of God, especially in the area of healing. Why? The Word gets rid of the fear. It gets rid of the doubt. It teaches you what’s real, what’s truth. It helps you stand strong in the face of symptom attacks.
How to resist. Anything trying to come upon you contrary to God’s Word is not real or from God, it’s symptoms. The devil is trying to hand you symptoms to see if you will accept them. If you do, THEN you have accepted the sickness or disease. THEN it becomes yours. THEN you’ll have it.
To resist you have to get determined to believe God first. You have to choose God’s way. You have to choose to speak God’s Words instead of the world’s words. You have to choose to believe that Jesus’ sacrifice was enough. You have to realize you WERE healed over 2000 years ago when Jesus died on the cross to deliver us from all sickness.
That means you are healed now no matter how you feel. You are the healed and the devil is trying to steal your healing any way he can.
I’ll leave you with an excellent example of resisting the devil. It was told by a then children’s minister* when Josh was little. I never forgot it.

“Knock knock”
“Who is it?”
“Delivery! I have a package for you!”
“What is it? I didn’t order anything.” Open’s door out of curiosity. “Who’s it from?”
“It’s from ME! You’re friend, the devil! Will you sign for this pretty package? It has all sorts of goodies inside like sickness, disease, lack, poverty, loss, stealing, destroying, killing, death… I need you to accept this package for it to become ALL yours! Just say you receive it!”
“NO! You’re NOT my friend. I have the promises of God. I won’t accept it!”
Slams the door!
