LIDT: Protect Your Spirit

Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you through and through [that is, separate you from profane and vulgar things, make you pure and whole and undamaged—consecrated to Him—set apart for His purpose]; and may your spirit and soul and body be kept complete and [be found] blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 5:23 AMP

We are a spirit. We live in a body. We have a soul (our mind, will, emotions). I’ll go into this in another post.

When Joshua (son) was 3-1/2 years, he had a babysitter who took him to a video rental store to pick out some videos to watch that day.  She later called me and said, “Do you know what he did? I picked up a very popular video that I knew wasn’t good. I asked him if he wanted to get that video.

“He was adamant, ‘NO. That video is the devil!!’”  His Spirit knew.  (And oh yes, it was indeed a bad video).

Fast forward a few years.  He was 7-8 this time. Mom retired and was babysitting Josh.

Mom loved the mystery legal drama television series, “Matlock“.  One day I got off work and went to pick him up. He was upset. He was uneasy, scared.

Why? From an episode of Matlock she watched that day. There had been a lot of murders on the episode. I don’t know what it was – if they were more graphic than normal or what. The point is that it had apparently affected him negatively.

She stated, “I guess it’s a little too mature for him. I’ll just tape it and watch it after he goes home.” I thought that was a good idea and said something like, “I guess he doesn’t need that in his Spirit” thinking he was just too young.

Immediately God said, “Spirit is Spirit. There is no young or old Spirit. If it is not good for a child, it’s not good for an adult. It will affect both spirits the same way.”

Anything that you wouldn’t allow your child to watch? Then it applies to you, too. If it isn’t good for a child, it isn’t good for you. It will open you up to the enemy’s tricks. It puts you in his playground.

What gets into your spirit through eyes, ears, or words of your mouth affects your body and soul. That’s why it’s important to protect your spirit – because it is who you are.

You have to choose.  Make a choice to protect your spirit.

  1. I never thought of that before. That is an eye opener because I always kept my kids from watching certain movies that my husband auI had no problem watching. I sure didn’t see it as leaving myself open to the enemy. Thank you for sharing what God showed you’re

  2. We must always be on guard to protect ourselves (spirit) from the enemy. It’s so good to know that greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world!

  3. Yes, yes, yes. The more we allow “things” in our lives that are contrary to what is good (right before God), we desensitize and the gray area is more neutral, thus the “no” promptings are softer and softer. This happens in every area of our lives. Guard your spirit and seek righteousness on every level. ?
