“Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses.  Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make.  Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!  You can make this choice by loving the LORD your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him.  This is the key to your life.  And if you love and obey the LORD, you will live long in the land…” Deuteronomy 30:19-20 (NLT)

Did you know God has given US the choice between blessing or cursing, life or death? He tells us in the referenced verses that we make the choice. How do we do that? 

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life]. Proverbs 18:21  (AMPC)

Your words bring life or death – blessing or cursing –  into your life. People! We simply do not understand the power of our words. God says they bring life or death. Doesn’t that sound like our words are vitally important?

Our words are so important that one scripture asks, “Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.  Psalm 141:3  

The Passion Translation says it this way. “God, give me grace to guard my lips from speaking what is wrong.”

Think about what you hear – “That drives me crazy” – “That just makes me sick” – Boy, things are going to hell in a handbasket” – “With this economy I’m probably going to lose my job” – or much worse.

I challenge you today to ask God to let you HEAR things you say wrong. He will. I did and boy was I shocked at some of the things I used to say – without even realizing that they were dangerous words.

Choose life. Choose blessing. Choose to let your words line up with what God says.

More than ever in the times we are living in, we need to speak life. Our very lives depend on it.
