Proverbs 6:2  Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.

Do you know you can be killing your future with your mouth? As the World War II poster above states, “Loose Lips Sink Ships”.  Loose lips sink ships is an idiom meaning “beware of unguarded talk”.

This holds true for our own lives. The Bible says that YOUR words will bless you or curse you, prosper you or break you, keep you alive or help kill you.

GOD put choices in front of you – life and death, blessing and cursing. He told YOU to choose life and blessing.

Cursing is far more powerful than simply saying a “four-letter curse word” like “da*n” or “he*l  (although they are not something you want to have in your life). Cursing is saying dead things (remember, God’s words are life). Cursing is saying things the opposite of what God says, opposite what you want.

In this life, YOUR words will bring you through victoriously or YOUR words will cause you more trouble than ever. In other words, it is possible to sink your own ship – your life – through the words of your mouth. You activate the curse with your words.

It doesn’t matter if you believe your words aren’t that important. Our enemy knows they are vital. He wants you to speak negatively. He will pressure you to speak doubt and unbelief. He wants you to speak death, destruction, destroying, thieving, and killing words. He wants to steal, kill and destroy your life, in any way he can.

Guess what? He can only steal from you when you agree with him through the words of your own mouth. All he has to do is get you to agree with his negative words and he has captured you through your own mouth.

“This book of the law (scripture) shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success.  Joshua 1:8 (RSV)

Short version? Say what God says and you’ll have success in every area of your life.

*Corrupt: opposite of what God says, corrupting the Word of God

  1. Let us guard the words of our mouth, Oh God, that they may be health & healing to our bones, life and blessing, and pleasing to You.

Quicken our spirit to speak in agreement with Your Word that we may do all You need us to do for You here and now. In Jesus Name.
