THERE IS POWER AND LIFE IN OUR MOUTH

Life or death is in our mouth. Not just physical life and death but life and death of dreams, aspirations, marriages, health, relationships, or all things pertaining to this life.

God has a language He wants us to learn and speak. Unfortunately, the devil has one he wants us to speak, too. Mostly we’ve already learned his growing up.

God’s language is always positive and uplifting. It is never negative. It is never about loss. It is never about lack or not having enough. His language is life and life-giving. God is “over and above” all we can ask or think (Eph. 3:20)

The devil’s language is understood in one scripture: John 10:10a – that “he, the thief, only comes to steal, kill and destroy”. Anything negative, anything destroying or depressing, causing failure – anything with loss attached to it, anything bringing death – that is the devil’s language.

We don’t really believe that our words are vital or we would REALLY watch the words coming out of our mouth. I can’t tell you how long God has worked with me about my words. I asked Him years ago to point out wrong words; I didn’t know it was going to be an on-going thing for the rest of my life.  (Psalm 141:3)

I look back now and realize if He had pointed out EVERYTHING, I probably would never have spoken again. We really don’t “hear” things we say when we’ve been saying them for a long time.

What words of the devil could you possibly be speaking, you ask? Some of them are very sneaky because so-called experts have told us things have to be a certain way.

We have quoted these experts over the years instead of the Word of God. By quoting them, we’ve produced a harvest of bad things in our lives – things that we are already redeemed from!

I will leave you with a few to give you an idea how much wrong words have snuck into our lives and vocabulary. They have dictated how we live. Remember, if you can’t find a scripture saying these things are true, you do not have to have it in your life. I’m sure you can add to this list if you just think about it from God’s point of view.

  • I don’t have a college degree so I’ll never make much money. (NO! The Bible says you have an unction, a special endowment, an anointing to function in this world to have “life and that more abundantly).
  • The experts say it is flu season so I guess I’ll be getting the flu any day now. (Jesus died for you to be delivered from EVERY sickness and disease).
  • You know, as you get older you will gain an average of 10 pounds a year because your metabolism slows down. And your skin loses its elasticity. Your hair will get thinner, too (He renews your youth and strength).
  • The Farmer’s Almanac says we are in for drought this year. (You’re not going to find that one in the Bible!).
  • My grandmother had cancer, my mother had cancer, and I will most likely have cancer. It runs in our family. (Jesus died for you to be delivered from EVERY sickness and disease).
  • No matter what I do, I can’t lose this weight.  (Think about this one for a bit. Are you not seeing the product of having what you say? Change those words around.)
  • My child is heading into the terrible twos (or traumatic teens). We confess this over our children long before they hit the age of two or teens. (…the Bible says your children are blessed. Anything else is a curse and not from God).
  • I can’t do, have, eat ________ (fill in the blank). (We. Are. Redeemed).
