“It is what it is…” was apparently first coined around 1949, rising in popularity from the 1990’s forward. Now, we occasionally hear it in films or uttered by famous people, or even someone we know around us.
It pretty much just means “accept it and move on.” It’s very fatalistic.
So the other night, right before I fell asleep I had that saying flutter through my mind. “It is what it is…” and immediately I heard the Lord say (no, I didn’t hear an audible voice; just down in my Spirit), “Is it? If you believe that, you negate My Scripture.”
It is what it is… – the Bible says we can make changes to our lives and situations through His Word and the words of our mouth based on what He says in the Bible. It states that we can have what we say. It states that by speaking what He says about us or any temporal situation in our life, it will change. Our words have life in them or death.*
Everything that is not like what Jesus died for us to have is temporary. So if we have lack in our life, sickness, broken relationships, or we’re broke, busted and disgusted… well, accepting “it is what it is” keeps it in our life – even if it is NOT what God wants for us.
I read a wonderful description from the book, “God’s Creative Power for Your Finances,” by Charles Capps and Annette Capps
“Hold fast to your confession. Do not speak contrary or foolish words. Say what you mean, and mean what you say. Speak as if every word you say will come to pass.” (Hint: it eventually will, good or bad.)
To say, “It is what it is…” about anything temporal is a lie. If something is not right, CHANGE IT. Change what you’re saying. Find out what God has to say about it then speak what He speaks about you or your situation.

I was going to list all the scriptures mentioned in the post but I’ve decided that if you really want to change things in your life, YOU dig out the information. Read your Bible. Study. Get a Bible software that lets you search words.
You’ll learn far more if you look it up for yourself. Get hungry because it isn’t “what it is” if it is “stealing, killing and destroying” things in your life!

*Okay okay, I’ll give you one: Proverbs 18:21 AMP – Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life].
**Word: Bible, scriptures
Awesome! Throughout our lives we have picked up sayings that sounded cool and probably got us some attention so we said them again and again. Without realizing it, what we were saying began to show up in our lives. Now with just this one example post I can look back and see how destructive those sayings were in my life. Just to be cool or accepted. No more!
