LITD: Spiritual Split Personality

Romans 10:9-10 (LITV) Because if you confess the Lord Jesus with your mouth, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved*. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth one confesses unto salvation*

Why did I only highlight certain parts of that scripture? Because that process, believing in your heart and saying with your mouth, is how God operates. Everything we receive from God is received that way.

What is a spiritual split personality? When we believe God’s Word in our hearts but our mouths talk something else. God calls it being “double minded” and says we will receive nothing (James 1:6-8). Faith has to be in both places – our hearts AND our mouths.

A quick example that may help you (and pardon the personal nature). I used to have endometriosis. The pain once a month was so debilitating, I was almost unable to function.

I asked my mom for prayer. After she prayed, as far as she was concerned, it was a done deal. Then she gave me this amazing advice:  it was highly possible that the next month, all the symptoms might show up again. It is one of our enemy’s tricks.

THIS, she said, is the deciding zone – this is where we make a decision about what we believe. It is either going to be what God says or what the symptom says. It is the place most Christians fail.

She said that whatever I did, DO NOT CONFESS, “Oh, I must have lost my healing (or, I never received it.)” She very strongly said NOT to say anything contrary to what we just prayed.

And oh my gosh, yes. That next month I thought I was going to die. The pain was off the charts. I just kept saying to myself and also aloud, “I am healed. I was healed last month. I am healed by the stripes of Jesus now.” Over and over. Sometimes with gritted teeth.

The next month, there were some very mild symptoms. I made the same confessions. The third month, not a single symptom. Not one symptom has ever come back, either. That was back around 1977.

Living in these times, it is important to get rid of the spiritual split personality. The enemy runs around seeking whom he may devour – and captures us with the words of our mouth. He came for Jesus’ words, he’ll come for your faith filled ones (1 Peter 5:8-9)

Believe what God says and speak what God says. Then you will be of one mind, not split. Protected and safe.

*Remember saved and salvation mean more than eternal life, going to heaven. Those words cover everything in life – safety, delivered, protected, rescued, health, to preserve, do well, make whole.
