Check Your Fruit For Worms

AppleWorm

Galatians 5:19-25 talks about the works of the flesh and the Fruit of the Spirit. When we get saved (ask Jesus into our hearts), the Fruit of the Spirit is given to us. We have two options in life – to “walk in the flesh” and to “walk in the spirit”.

It’s actually very simple.  We live in a body, we have a soul (mind, will, emotions) and we are a Spirit. It is our Spirit that is born-again, not our flesh, mind, will, or emotions. Those are renewed, changed, through the Word of God.

While living in that body, our soul can be the boss of us or our Spirit can.  To strengthen our spirit-man, we need to renew our thinking by getting into the Bible, reading, meditating and studying it, then applying it.

If we don’t spend time with God then we operate in our soul-realm (often called “the flesh”):  our emotions (feelings), our will, our mind (thoughts). This is not a good idea! The words “emotional wreck” come to mind. Ever been one? That’s your flesh bossing you around.

Here is a perfect example of flesh versus spirit:

Inspect your fruit. Is it God-like or full or worms? Are you able to “walk in love” (be nice, kind, loving, understanding – or at the very least, able to keep your opinions to yourself)? Make right choices that lead you in a good way?

If people are supposed to know you are a Christian by your fruit – what are they seeing? Rotten fruit, stinking and wormy or fresh-picked off the tree fruit?

Do they see someone who acts ike everyone else around them, losing your temper, impatient, angry all the time, never keeping your word? Or do they see someone who walks in healthy fruit – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control?

  1. Very good. It is so easy to slip into wormy fruit. It appears that we need to renew our mind daily and sometimes more.
