I’m a Pepper, He’s a Pepper
She’s a Pepper, We’re a Pepper
Wouldn’t you like to be a Pepper, too?
Dr. Pepper, drink Dr. Pepper

It was a catchy little ditty that sticks in your head and pops back out at the weirdest times. There were a lot of parodies from that one line, “Be a Pepper”.
One Sunday my pastor said, “It isn’t good enough just to hear the Word of God. You must be a doer.” As soon as he said that, I heard that jingle in my head and substituted doer – as in,
“I’m a doer, he’s a doer… wouldn’t you like to be a doer, too?”
That catchy tune (changed into “doer”) reminds me not only to read my Bible but to DO what I read – to DO what I am supposed to do – be a Doer!
So here’s one challenge I faced after that catchy tune in being a Doer – honesty. I ordered ONE rug from a company. When my order arrived, I discovered instead of one rug, I received one package with 6 rugs in it. Someone in the warehouse simply grabbed the bag and tossed it in the box rather than opening it and taking one rug out.
Now no one would have known if I kept those extra rugs but it was actually an opportunity to mess up big time – with God! I immediately called the company and was told how to return the extra rugs. The guy said he’d email me a return label within 48 hours.
Five days later it finally dawned on me I had not received a label. Hmmm – what a hassle (hold time on the phone with this company was LONG) – should I pursue it? YES! I called again. I was again told I would receive a label and this time, I did.
You would think that was it, right? Test passed and move on. Nope. The morning I received a notice the company had received my returned rugs proved another challenge in honesty. Their email stated that my account had been credited for the extra rugs.
Not only had they sent me extra rugs that I didn’t order and didn’t pay for but now they were giving me money for the rugs that I didn’t order and didn’t pay for.
By now, most people would have just given up and kept the money. I couldn’t. Why? I am a doer of the Word of God and His Word says, “YOU SHALL NOT STEAL.” I knew it would dishonor God. GOD would know I kept the money even if no one else did.
Keeping something you didn’t pay for and the company didn’t intend for you to keep is stealing. It is that simple. As a doer, I had to keep calling the company until the issues were resolved.
I’m a doer, he’s a doer, dum de dum dum…. wouldn’t you like to be a doer, too?

Sometimes it is difficult to do what is right just as in this post. Circumstances and communications make it difficult. But doing what is right just because it is the right thing to do no matter what, is right.
