So many times Christians let their “but” get in the way. They read their Bible, see God’s promise to them but let their “but” win.

Example – God promises the people of Israel that He would lead them to an amazing land they could take over. They sent out 12 spies to check out the land God said was theirs. They saw the land was good, and came back to give a report on it. 

You see up there what they said and how they let fear dictate what they believed. In Verse 30 one spy, Caleb, interrupted their bad report and said, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.” 

He didn’t let their “but” stop him from believing what God said they could do. 

So many times we are like what happened in Numbers. We let our past history tell us what to believe. We let fear dictate our beliefs. We allow other people’s knowledge or opinions talk to us (“Aunt Sally had that very thing the doctor’s tell me I have and she died.”). Or we believe what the world reports to us as fact.

Taking a stand in life to believe what God says in the Bible in the face of what the world or the so-called professionals say is not easy. The devil wants to convince us that we are being foolish to believe what’s in the Bible rather than those so-called professionals.

I say so-called only because if they believe the opposite of God, or the Bible, then they are not professionals in what God says. They are only professionals according to the world. 

The Bible says, “by His (Jesus) stripes you were healed” (1 Peter 2:24). Our “but” would say:

“But I don’t feel good” or “I don’t feel healed”

“But they say the flu is going around and I always catch it when it does”

“But it’s allergy season and I always get the sniffles”

“But everyone in my family gets that type of cancer and the doctors say…”

Or take provision. The Bible says that God will supply ALL your needs (Philippians 4:19).

“But my job doesn’t pay enough for me to live on”

“But the economy stinks and everything in too expensive”

Or how about your wants?  Psalms 23:1 – The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want

“Yeah but God didn’t mean the new car I really want”

And on and on. 

Don’t let your “but” get in the way of believing God and His Word. Take a faith-stand.
