I heard a minister tell this story years ago. It’s slightly modified because I can’t recall the whole thing. It was by Pastor Willie George and I never forgot this illustration.

He had an amazing children’s ministry, television show, videos, and a church camp when my son was little, somewhere in the 80’s. It went something like this:

“Knock knock”

“Who is it?” 

“Delivery! I have a package for you!”

“What is it? I didn’t order anything.” Open’s door out of curiosity. “Who’s it from?”

“It’s from ME! The devil! Will you sign for this package? See this pretty package? It’s all sorts of goodies like sickness, disease, lack, loss, stealing, destroying, killing… I need you to accept this package for it to become ALL yours! Just say you receive it!”

“NO!” Slams the door!

This is how to fight your enemy who brings you everything you don’t want. Shout NO and SLAM THE DOOR! Slam the door and refuse to accept anything the devil tries to bring you. 

Find out what package is really yours. Tell God you receive HIS package – everything good – everything Jesus died for… “everything in abundance, more than you expect—life in its fullness until you overflow!”

Short version? 1 Peter 5:8-9a Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking (notice he’s just looking; you have to agree, to accept) whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith,

*Knock Knock* “May I devour you?”
