Hearing God’s Voice – The Nashville Bombing

As most are aware there was a bombing in Nashville Christmas morning. What some don’t know is that God protected, not only the people living in the vicinity, but one particular policeman named Officer James Wells.  Officer Wells credited God with his last-minute decision to walk away from the recreational vehicle just seconds before it exploded.

Here is his story:

“After knocking on doors, Wells said he went back to his car and pulled it back farther to get out of blast radius. He then got out of his car and started walking toward the RV. ‘This might not be politically correct, but this is my truth,’ Wells said Sunday. ‘I literally heard God tell me to turn around and go check on (Officer) Topping, who was by herself down on Broadway.’

“Wells, who said he’s a spiritual person, credited his survival to the voice… that told him to walk in the opposite direction.

“‘That’s what saved my life,’ Wells said. ‘That’s what got me to see my kids and my wife on Christmas…'”

What is wonderful about what happened is not that God spoke to Officer Wells but that Officer Wells knew it was God’s voice and He OBEYED God’s voice.

If you have trouble believing you’re hearing God’s voice, ask Him to help you. He will. Next time I’ll tell you how He warned me about a herd of deer in the middle of the road that I would have hit had I not obeyed the “thought” to slow down.

As you “practice His presence” and practice hearing His voice, it gets easier to know He’s the one talking and to “hear” Him. It’s rarely a audible voice. It’s more like a sudden random thought that you know is not yours. And you can learn to carry on conversations with Him. He’s very funny and so compassionate.

  1. That is awesome that he heard God. How about during 9/11. How many times you heard people say God spared them because they stopped for something or went to breakfast because they obeyed the prompting to do so. Then others did not obey the promptings and died. Do what He says to do!

  2. We must always be aware and listening for that still, small voice! Thanks for sharing this, Nan. I hadn’t heard this officer’s story.
