People often believe that the Old Testament doesn’t concern us any more. Not true. Oftentimes, OT scripture like “Touch not my anointed” is fulfilled a different way in NT. In this case, Jesus saying “judge not”.
And no matter what you think about someone, even the person sitting next to you in church is God’s anointed. You cannot even criticize your own spouse because when you do, you are touching God’s anointed (judging).
Read 2 Corinthians 1:20-22 and 1 John 2:27. You will find that the entire Body of Christ is considered the anointed, not just certain people in the Body. All Christians are God’s anointed and have the same Holy Spirit. Some are more mature than others and some are more knowledgeable than others.
Ways to “touch not” and ways to “judge not”:
1. Don’t spread your feelings. It is not a sin to have your own ideas, convictions, even opinions. You get in trouble when they aren’t based on God’s Word and when you share them the wrong way.
2. Pray for someone who’s “on your heart” (someone you want to talk about)
3. Keep all things edifying (building up) and joyful. “…you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things (about others that are) true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse.” Philippians 4:8 (MSG)
4. Stay submitted to authority or get out (especially a church) – and if you get out, refer to #1. YOU have no idea if God put that person in that office or not. He is not going to tell you. If you can’t agree? Get Out.
5. Don’t touch God’s anointed now that you know we are all considered God’s anointed. It is dangerous.
Touching God’s anointed? It’s judging. Yes, even your spouse.
Luke 6:37 Judge not and ye shall not be judged: condemn not and ye shall not be condemned: forgive and ye shall be forgiven:
It’s easy to see a smudge on your neighbor’s face and be oblivious to the ugly sneer on your own.
It’s this whole traveling road-show mentality all over again, playing a holier-than-thou part instead of just living your part. Wipe that ugly sneer off your own face and you might be fit to offer a washcloth to your neighbor.
Whew!! Foooood for thought!!
