What is God’s Will

There are many scriptures explaining God’s Will. Today I want to deal with one of my favorites, 1 Thessalonians 5:18. It is also one that’s very misunderstood.

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.  1 Thessalonians 5:18

What can be misunderstood with this scripture is that people read it and believe it is saying to thank God FOR everything.  No, it says IN, not for.

How can you do this? Well, if you trust God, you already know He has the answer to everything you need. No matter what you face, He has a way out.

No matter what attacks the enemy throws at you, He has the answer. He’s got your back.

So say some unexpected bill comes in. You don’t have the money for it.  How do you give thanks?

“Father, You’ve got mail!”

Oh OK,  “Father, I thank You that Your Word says in Philippians 4:19 that You supply all I need. I have a bill here that I need the finances for.  Since You supply all I need, then I know this bill is taken care of.  Thank You for provision.”

That’s a rough idea. You just speak the Word from your heart.  Now you also see why Bible study is important. You have to know what the Bible says.

If you look up the word “need” in a concordance, you will find that it comes from a root that means, “to furnish what is needed”. I learned a long time ago to just thank Him for something He said He has already done or given you. You don’t have to ask Him if He has.

You give thanks FOR the answer, not the problem.

The Bible has the answer for everything you face and need.
