L.I.D.T. – Living in Dangerous Times – Do you realize that we have a promise of divine protection from God? Unfortunately, most don’t know this or we get careless with our words.

There are words we say to others (joking, talking negatively) and even more importantly, words we speak to ourselves.

We talk to ourselves all the time. We think (insert your own name), “Boy, Nan, that was a stupid thing to do” or “I must be losing my mind!” Or looking in the mirror, “Ugh, you look awful today.” Self-talk can be very dangerous.

Proverbs 18:21 talks about how life and death are in our mouth, in our words. What we speak leads towards life or towards death..

(Message Translation) Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.

(New Living Translation) The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.

In these coming days, it is vital we must get an understanding of how powerful our words are. We can no longer be careless about them. We can’t just blurt out whatever we want.

We can’t make jokes about how stupid we are, how old we are, how bad our luck is, how our kids drive us crazy, or ANYTHING contrary to what God says in the Bible. We need to speak life and not death.

Psalms 141:3 (LITV) states, “O Jehovah, set a guard to my mouth; keep watch on the door of my lips.”  My paraphrase is, “God help me shut my mouth!” Ask Him to help you “hear” what you’ve been saying. He will.

Once we begin to speak over ourselves (and family) what God says, we’ll say things like, “I will live and not die!” (Psalm 118:17) or “Nothing will by any means hurt me!” (Luke 10:19). Those are words of life.

Words of life mean we can enjoy 1 John 5:18 (NLT) –“We know that God’s children do not make a practice of sinning, for God’s Son holds them securely, and the evil one cannot touch them.
