Living God’s Way Isn’t Easy

Lately, I’d been catching up my reading of blogs that I follow. I’m not talking all ministry blogs; I have several secular ones I enjoy, also.

I was reading one that I’ve been following quite a long time and finally realized that God had been prompting me to quit and I needed to. I’d been semi-ignoring that “voice” because I liked the author – but I had to hit the unsubscribe link.

I know we like to think when we finally decide to obey, “Oh! God, I didn’t know you wanted me to stop this or that!” like it is a surprise to us.  But no.

If we read our Bible, spend time with God, pray, pray in the Spirit, sing to and worship God, we will hear His voice very clearly. Not audibly, but in that inner knowing. The Bible will tell us how to live a godly life, very clearly. Then when we deviate, we know it pretty quickly.

God has a set of commandments we are to live by. Following His commandments means we walk in a life well worth living with days of heaven upon the earth.

When we do not, we live hell on earth, lost, dazed and confused wondering why God has forsaken us. We pretty much bump from one mess to another, living drama.

The scripture God brought to my mind when I was having trouble letting go things that others might think insignificant was Isaiah 1:19, “If ye be willing AND obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:”

This word EAT is not talking about food (although I’m sure it’s included) but devouring/consuming the best of the land, the goodness, the beauty, the welfare (faring well). You will live God’s best.

But the second part of that verse (v. 20) says a BUT that is just as important – “But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.” Devour here is the same Hebrew word as the word eat in the previous sentence.

Yep – obey and have a good life – disobey (or ignore or don’t know what the Bible says because you don’t read it) and you’ll not.

So anyway, the author of the blog believed many things that I could not agree with. There were many times she took a stand that was opposite what the Bible says, not even knowingly, but because it was popular belief.

So as much as I liked the author, in obedience to God I had to unsubscribe from her blog and NOT because she was an evil or unsaved person. It was to choose to obey Philippians 4:8 (LITV) “…whatever is true, whatever honorable, whatever is right, whatever pure, whatever lovely, whatever of good report, if of any virtue, and if of any praise, think on these things.”

It was a choice I had to make. I had to be willing and obedient to obey because I want to eat the good of the land (and obey God). So I have to obey every scripture, no matter if everyone else thinks it’s not important.

Truthfully? We all do. We all have that choice in front of us every day – to obey or to disobey AND to be willing to do so. Selah.  (Pause and think about that!)

  1. Very good point.
It is not easy since we are bombarded by the worlds ideas which as a rule is opposite of God’s instructions.
